Opening Up
Alex Trebeck’s death has to be one of the most devastating celebrity deaths in recent memory. However, Trebeck’s decision to be so candid with his followers should come as no surprise. After all, the presenter revealed his cancer diagnosis on YouTube in March 2019. In a video posted to the Jeopardy! channel, he stated, “Just like 50,000 other people in the United States each year, I was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer this week.”
Optimistic Outlook
“Now, normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging,” Trebek continued, “but I’m going to fight this.” And I’m going to keep working, and with the love and support of my family and friends – as well as your prayers – I hope to beat the disease’s low survival rate statistics.” According to the American Cancer Society, only about 9% of people with pancreatic cancer live for five years.
