Tom couldn’t stop thinking about Max’s toy and the strange barking. “It has to mean something,” he said softly. He sat on his bed and turned the toy over in his hands. Every squeak seemed like Max was shouting for him. “Am I going crazy?” he pondered. He heard his mother call for dinner but felt disconnected. The puzzles overwhelmed him, demanding answers he could not deny.
