John ‘Ecstasy’ Fletcher
Ecstasy, a founder of the pioneering hip-hop group Whodini, died of an undisclosed cause at the age of 56. In 1982, Fletcher and fellow rapper Jalil Hutchins founded the group, which was later joined by DJ Grandmaster Dee. Whodini is widely regarded as a hip-hop genre pioneer. Other artists heavily sampled “Friends” and “Five Minutes of Funk.”
K.T. Oslin
The Grammy-winning country singer passed away less than a week after contracting COVID-19-related pneumonia. She was 78 years old at the time. The legendary singer-songwriter, best known for being the first woman to win the 1988 Grammy Award for song of the year, also appeared on television in the 1990s as a guest star and late-night host, in addition to starring opposite Harry Hamlin in Poisoned by Love and in’s 1993 film. She was elected to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2018 after being inducted into the Texas Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2014.
