Joni Mitchell
It has always been impressive to see how well Joni Mitchell can blend different sounds. In the past, she has experimented with rock, pop, jazz, and folk. Her music is usually called poetic, which is a great way to applaud her lyrics. Her songs are full of emotions and commentary about society and love. “I would have to say of all the women I’ve heard. She had the most profound effect on me from a lyrical point of view,” Madonna once said about her. It must have been awesome to hear that from Madonna!
Billie Holiday
Before she made it big, Billie Holiday sang in music clubs in Harlem. This was how a record producer by the name of John Hammond discovered her. Thanks to his help, she got to record the first songs of her career. A song called “What a Little Moonlight Can Do” helped her reach success. To this day, she is the face of vocal jazz. While she did not have formal training, her great voice made up for it.
