Never Giving Up
Joy discovered how to appreciate her children’ individuality and their special relationship. She was thankful to have Amanda and Emily in her life and was in awe of their love and relationship. However, she sobbed uncontrollably when she was by herself because she believed she had done something wrong to merit all of the suffering she was experiencing. Taking care of the twins was challenging.

Joy and Roberto recalled how thrilled they had been at first to find out they were expecting twins. When they learned that one of the kids was not like other newborns, their happiness was short-lived, but they were unable to fathom their lives without her after that. They had a hard time taking in the facts and accepting the truth of their predicament. Even though they were giving it their all, they were exhausted.
