Finding safe spots
To momentarily avoid the stepmother’s fury, the youngster seeks refuge in the home. He hides in a few little places and obscure nooks where she doesn’t often look when she gets angry. His typical hiding places are behind the old bookcase in the living room, within the attic, and beneath the staircase. These locations provide him with short-term relief from her persistent animosity.
