Despite my repeated attempts, Brenda seemed resolute in ignoring me. “Ma’am, could you please move?” I asked, my tone firmer this time. She stayed fixed on her book, her deliberate indifference making it clear she had no intention of acknowledging me. It was as if I didn’t exist. The silence between us grew heavier, thick with unspoken tension. The awkwardness became palpable, drawing curious glances from passersby as they tried to make sense of the scene. Jacob’s Unease
Poor Jacob stood there clutching his backpack tightly to his chest, his big blue eyes filled with uncertainty as he looked up at me. “Mommy, where do I sit?” he whispered, his voice barely audible. I knelt down, forcing a reassuring smile despite the frustration building inside me. “We’ll figure this out, buddy, I promise,” I said softly. But I could feel his unease, and I knew we couldn’t stay like this much longer.
