left the charity feeling motivated by those individuals’ commitment. “You’re doing important work,” I said, shaking the director’s hand. It felt fair and proper to donate my resources to their cause. It was obvious that these people’s enthusiasm was more valuable than anything tangible. I felt compelled to share their goal, and their passion validated my own.

A Meaningful Legacy
I came to the realization that I was creating a legacy that went beyond money when I left the nonprofit. I muttered to myself, “This is about change,” anticipating the possible effects of what I was doing. Knowing that my legacy will be one of significant change rather than just riches made me feel lighter as I walked back than I had in years. It was a liberating experience, and my determination just became stronger.
