Confronting Cassie
Unable to disregard the evidence, my brother confronted Cassie with her behavior and lies. ‘Tell me the truth, Cassie,’ he shouted, his voice quivering with rage and pain. “Was any of it real?” Cassie searched around for an exit, but found none. She finally met his gaze, her eyes wide with fear. ‘It’s not what it seems like,’ she began, but my brother stopped her off, refusing to hear any more excuses.

Cassie attempted to defend herself, but her words stumbled over one other in desperation. ‘I did it for us, for our future!’ she exclaimed. But the harm was already done. My brother’s perception of her genuineness was completely shattered. ‘No, Cassie,’ he replied, his voice firm. ‘This is not for us. “This was never for us,” he said, leaving Cassie feeling defeated.
