Morgan Dollars

This is possibly one of the most historically significant entries on the list. Near the end of the 1800s, Morgan dollars were introduced into circulation. They were extremely valuable at the time. In the 1920s, there was a surge in demand for the desirable silver dollar. The supply continued to outstrip demand. This is why these coins have lost their monetary value. Their current value is based on their silver mass.

Indian Head Pennies

From 1859 to 1909, the United States Mint kept the Indian Head pennies in circulation. The Philadelphia Mint’s Chief Engraver, James Barton Longacre, was responsible for the design of these one-cent coins. Following the war, the Indian Head penny came to dominate the market. Collectors sought them out, but once there were over 100 million coins in circulation by 1907, demand for them began to decline. Victor D. Brenner redesigned the penny, giving it an Abe Lincoln likeness.
