Chrissie Hynde created The Pretenders, her frontwoman since 1978. The hippie counterculture movement influenced her, working in a jointly owned clothing store with designer Vivienne Westwood in London. She left music for fashion. She started paying the back rent she owed in her practice room in London, making it all come back and more.
