Keep Up With The Iconic Women Of The Star Trek Franchise

Published on 02/18/2021

Wouldn’t it be exciting to go on an adventure in a starship? From there, you can spend your time checking out other worlds and cruising through the universe. There might be friendly aliens, although some will almost certainly be hostile. Star Trek offered us the chance to see these plotlines play out. While the story is already good enough on its own, the beautiful women made it even better. Do you want to know how these lovely ladies are doing now? If so, you have come to the right place!

Susan Oliver as Vina

The producers of the show did a good job by putting one of the most gorgeous women in the world in the pilot episode. Susan Oliver was stunning as Vina, one of the greatest female characters in the series. She appeared in “The Cage,” the very first episode of the show. She boasted illusionary powers and could dance and transform into a green girl. Sadly, the actress experienced a tragedy of sorts later in life.

After appearing on Star Trek, she was in other TV shows like M*A*S*H, Peyton Place, Gunsmoke, and Days of Our Lives. Susan Oliver was even nominated for the last one! She developed an interest in aviation and trained for a pilot license. In the past, she nearly died twice on a plane as a passenger and had to undergo hypnosis to conquer her fear of flying. Isn’t that ironic? She died in 1990 at the young age of 58.

Sherry Jackson as Andrea

In an episode called “What Are Little Girls Made Of?”, Sherry Jackson played Andrea. The character was actually an android crafted by a mad scientist. She could mimic what she witnessed but had an inability to show human emotions. Even though she was gorgeous, she would make for a bad date. In the episode, Kirk kissed her, but she was not into it. After some time, she developed the capacity to feel thanks to her crush on him! Sadly, she was eventually destroyed before the episode came to a close.

Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine

If you ask us, Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine was one of the most beautiful characters we have ever seen on the small screen. She was perfect for the role! Seven of Nine used to be a Borg, who was later freed. She wanted to know more about her human side and faced a lot of internal conflicts. It was fascinating to see her explore her humanity, but we also admired the actress rocking that skin-tight leotard.

France Nuyen as Elaan

In the third season of the show, we watched France Nuyen play Elaan in “Elaan of Troyius.” She played a bad girl who was arrogant, bratty, and rude. Not only that, but those who touched her tears became her love slave! She used this trick on Captain Kirk, but Spock ended up finding an antidote to snap him out of it. This was a groundbreaking episode since it showed a love scene with people from different races.

Nichelle Nichols as Lt. Uhura

Over the years, we have seen Nichelle Nichols play Lt. Uhura in a couple of movies in the series. Her portrayal was considered groundbreaking in several ways. She was one of the first black ladies to play a big TV role, for one thing. Aside from that, she was also the first character that had an interracial display of affection with Kirk! Uhura even became a commander in Star Trek III.

Kirstie Alley as Saavik

Kirstie Alley may be one of the most popular actresses to appear in the series. She played Saavik in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. The character was a Vulcan who lacked human emotions. Viewers liked her character for her beauty and strength, but she had to leave after contract negotiations fell through. In the end, she was replaced by Robin Curtis for the role. This part likely helped her get her role in Cheers.

Barbara Bouchet as Kelinda

In an episode called By “Any Other Name” and “Educating Kelinda,” Barbara Bouchet portrayed a Kelvan who could not feel human emotions until Kirk “showed her the way.” The blonde beauty is so gorgeous that she was able to pull off this interesting hairdo. Wouldn’t you kill to look as good as she does?

Nancy Kovack as Nona

In the second season of the show, Nancy Kovack played Nona in “A Private Little War.” The character is married to Tyree, who is totally under her control. She was a great dancer who had healing powers. She later healed Kirk with the use of herbs after a Mugato attacked him. Sadly, she went a bit loopy later in the episode after thinking that the villagers would take over. She was eventually killed off.

In “Bread and Circuses” in the second season, Lois Jewell brought Drusilla to life. Kirk is imprisoned in this episode, so the slave is tasked to “give [Captain Kirk] his last hours as a man.” She also said that she is “ordered to please” him. It must have been one of the racist episodes in the entire franchise!

The gorgeous Marina Sirtis brought Deanna Troi to life in Star Trek: The Next Generation. The character was a counselor on the Enterprise ship and could read feelings. Best known for playing Yeoman Martha London in the second season of the show, Celeste Yarnall blew us away with her good looks. On the show, she was a yeoman or a personal assistant of sorts. She looked great in her space uniform! She was not romantically involved with Kirk but with Pavel Chekov.

Emily Banks as Tonia Barrows

In “Shore Leave,” Emily Banks brought Tonia Barrows to life. She was not just an actress, but she was also a spokesperson in the past. It looks like the producers made the right call to cast her in the show. She was also a yeoman. Instead of serving as a love interest of Kirk, she was instead a romantic interest of Doctor McCoy. We are glad to see that the other guys got to explore romantic options as well.

Mariette Hartley as Zarabeth

This is a photo of Mariette Hartley, who brought Zarabeth to life in the first season of the show. If that costume looks familiar, it probably reminds you of Raquel Welch in One Million Years BC. Kirk is not the love interest of the character this time because that honor instead went to Spock. He meets her after going back in time, only to find out that she came from 5,000 years in the past. Oof.

Maggie Thrett as Ruth Bonaventure

It is hard not to stare at Maggie Thrett as she plays Ruth Bonaventure to life in the first season. In our opinion, it should be illegal to have such seductive eyes. Together with other ladies, she joined a con-man called Harcourt Fenton Mudd. The truth was that he gave them the Venus Drug and tried to sell them to lithium miners. It was a taboo plot that showed us how ahead of the time the show was.

Lee Meriwether as Losira

We have yet another ‘60s icon who appeared on the show. Lee Meriwether got to play Losira in “That Which Survives.” It was a farfetched character who killed anything she touched. She was bitter about it and revealed that an executive on the show sexually assaulted her. “They wanted William Shatner to have romances in each episode with a different person because for him to be stuck with one woman was not good for him and it wasn’t good for the audience. That’s what they told me, so I was written out,” she shared in “The Longest Trek.” Outside of acting, she helped people overcome addictions and sober up. In 2015, she passed away at 85 years old.

Barbara Luna as Lt. Marlena Moreau

In “Mirror, Mirror,” we watched Barbara Luna take on the role of Marlena Moreau. There were two versions of the character in the episode: one good, one evil. The character came from an alternate universe in which everyone has an evil twin that must be banished or destroyed. It was a fascinating concept! As usual, Lt. Bibi Besch was the original actress, although Alice Eve later played the same character in the new version.

This actress made her on-screen debut in The Secret Storm. Apparently, she was not a fan of her role in Star Trek. She said, “I tried to make it as Human as possible rather than trying to fit into something that already was because this character hadn’t existed before, and I didn’t really feel that I had to do that [….] It’s difficult to play a woman who has had a relationship with someone that everybody knows. So I tried to make it believable for myself. I fantasized about an early affair [between Kirk and Carol Marcus] and why it turned out the way it did. What kind of people we both became, how I got to be where I was, not just as a scientist but as a woman who wouldn’t have told Kirk for all those years that he had a son.”

Michelle Forbes as Ro Laren

It must have been fun for Michelle Forbes to have her first TV appearance in Star Trek: The Next Generation. She played the feisty Ro Laren, which was originally meant to be a small role.
