The Bearer of Bad News
When Nicole learned that it would be dangerous for her if she got pregnant, she went home broken-hearted. When her husband Kevin came home, he could tell right away that something was wrong. He narrated, “I got home from work and Nicole had that look on her face like something was wrong and I’m never going to forget it. I said, ‘What’s wrong?’ and she said, ‘The doctor doesn’t think we can have children.’ And you know, nobody wants to hear that.” When she elaborated on the risks, he understood.

A Risky Pregnancy
For Nicole, it was not easy to find out that she could conceive, but the resulting pregnancy would be risky for her and the child. “I was able to conceive, but I wouldn’t be able to have a healthy pregnancy. And it would result in death of myself or the baby,” she said. Without a doubt, carrying a child would be too dangerous for her. The only thing they could do was find an alternative way in order to achieve the dream that she shared with Kevin.
