Ever since she saved her Doberman from the shelter, Emily and Max had developed a strong attachment. However, Max’s behavior has drastically altered recently; he has become more worried and won’t leave her side. At first, her husband John thought it was just affection, but as Max’s antics grew more intense, he started to suspect and worry. There was tension and dread in the home as a result of their inability to come up with a rational explanation for the dog’s behavior. When John finally learned the startling reason for Max’s intense protectiveness, his concern turned to terror and he called the police.

Inseparable pair
Ever since she had saved Max from the shelter, they had been inseparable. Max stayed at Emily’s side the entire time, even on that first drive home. Max was there, a faithful shadow, whether she was watching TV or gardening. His persistent presence, however, has recently been unnerving rather than consoling. He seemed to follow her everywhere, and Emily started to realize how their typically peaceful home was being strained.
