Guarding the door
Max became increasingly aggressive, growling at the door even when no one was there. Max sat down in front of the door one evening as Emily was making supper, his ears pricked up and he gave a loud growl. John checked and discovered nothing out of the ordinary. “What’s wrong with him?” John mumbled as he began to feel the strain of the circumstance. Max’s actions weren’t just strange; they were becoming concerning.

Barking at night
Max’s constant nighttime barking made Emily uncomfortable. His loud barks, which reverberated throughout the still home, repeatedly awakened her up. Max would bark into the dark while standing at the bedroom door. This was not the calm person he usually was. “What’s wrong, boy?” Emily muttered, but Max persisted. John sat up, obviously upset. Every night was more of the same, which fueled an unavoidable sense of dread.
