Max’s behavior became more severe every day, and Emily’s efforts to soothe the dog appeared ineffective. The formerly tranquil home seemed like a siege-held fortress. Unable to get rid of the sense that something was actually amiss, John made the decision to do more since he was certain that they had to find the source.

John made the decision to act independently. On one morning, he promised Emily, “I’ll figure this out.” He started browsing the internet for related tales and potential causes of Max’s actions. He made the rash decision to take Max to the veterinarian to rule out any health problems after reading some advise online. Emily nodded in the hopes that they might discover some answers as he said, “It’s at least a first step.”
