Chris’s stammered excuse
Chris attempted to stutter out an excuse, but Dereck cut him off. “Save it, Chris,” Dereck said, his tone chilly. Chris’s face turned pale, and he swallowed hard, obviously at a loss for words. The tension in the room was palpable, and I could see panic in Chris’ eyes. He was desperate, but Dereck would have none of it. The hush that followed was full of unsaid accusations.
