Meanwhile, pressure is also mounting on my family and friends, who are beginning to seriously fear for our safety. We gather to discuss precautions to take, knowing that careful planning is our best defense. “We must go through with it,” Laura insists, determined more than ever.

Growing public interest
At the same time, public interest in my case is growing by the day. A number of local bloggers begin to address it, raising doubts about the police’s actions. “Something is fishy here,” reads one post that quickly attracts attention. The media also begin knocking on the door, requesting interviews and sensing that there may be a much larger narrative behind my story. Mr. Thompson urges caution, while recognizing the potential benefit of public support. “The more eyes, the better,” he states. It’s like walking a tightrope: we need to stay focused as we learn to move through the growing media frenzy.
