Vera Lynn – Age 102
The 102-year-old Vera Lynn is forever in the memories of the veterans of the Second World War. With her charming face and enchanting voice, she warmed their hearts. A British War Medal was presented to her and she became an official dame of the United Kingdom. When she was seven years old, Vera started singing and left school at 11 for a trip. Vera had disappeared from the limelight and was now committed to helping women fight cancer and children with disabilities.
Sidney Poitier – Age 92
The pathway was paved for Bahamian-American actors by Sidney Poitier, aged 92. He was globally renowned and appeared and was an on-screen Academy Award-winning star from numerous theatres. He was the very first actor from African America to receive a prestigious honor. He chose to try filming, directing and finally became a diplomat when he retired from acting. A British knighthood was granted to him. The Presidential Medal of Freedom was also presented to him. He had always been vocal about prejudice and had led numerous charitable activities.
