Ready to panic
The first officer eventually said to them in a harsh tone: “Shut up! You can save all that for the interrogation,” then muttered something inaudible that neither of them could make out. Upon hearing these words, Erika immediately paled – she realized at that moment that this was much more serious than she had imagined. Her heart raced, panic began to set in, and a single question echoed in her mind: What the hell is going on?

Erika and Mark sat in silence in the back of the police car as they drove away from the property, stunned by everything that was happening. When Mark saw Erika’s eyes fill with tears, he took her hand gently and whispered, “They’ll be fine, don’t worry.” He knew she was distressed that they had left their children alone at that moment, but as painful as it was to admit, there were now even more pressing issues to worry about.
