With respect to the recent discoveries, even some of archaeology’s leading critics who agreed on the authenticity of Jesus’ tomb site have changed their minds.Dan Bahat, a renowned Israeli archaeologist, stated that there is now no reason to doubt the veracity of Corbo’s claim that the Church was in more or less the same place as when it was built nearly two thousand years ago.

“We really have no reason to reject the authenticity of the site,” Bahat says, even though there is no hard evidence to prove that Jesus’ body was buried directly beneath the existing edicule. It is true that there are no other sites where such a valuable claim can be made. The findings from the 2016 excavations convinced more than one expert, even though the Protestant world and many archaeologists believe the actual site was outside the Old City, in a place called the Garden Tomb.
