Patti Austin has had some hereditary weight loss issues. Apart from that, medical ailments like coronary artery disease and Type 2 diabetes have also been in the family. Since Austin has both asthma and diabetes, her doctors have asked her to tone down her weight. The singer went for a gastric bypass surgery. After a successful surgery, Austin lost 120 pounds of her total of 300 pounds, effectively losing 40% of her body weight.
