Greta Garbo
It is almost unheard-of to leave Hollywood at the peak of your career. But Greta Garbo did exactly that. Before making her speaking debut in Anna Christie in 1930, the three-time Academy Award-nominated actress began her silent films career. She decided to retire at the age of 35 after a spell of “box office poison.” Garbo enjoyed a retirement vacation life of leisure. She also started a massive collection of art, which by the time she passed away was worth millions.
