One of the waitresses paused, as though recalling something unusual. “You know,” she began, “she once muttered something odd during a late shift.” David leaned in, his curiosity sparked. “What did she say?” he asked. The waitress frowned slightly, searching her memory. “Something about ‘unfinished business,'” she said at last. David’s thoughts whirled. It wasn’t much, but it could be a clue. He thanked her and walked away, lost in contemplation.
