Louisa May Alcott
American novelist Louisa May Alcott is most known for her novel the Little Women. The author had chosen to maintain a single life until she passed away which created a commotion in her conservative era. After she visited a married acquaintance, the author reportedly said that the “nest” was was “very sweet and pretty, but I’d rather be a free spinster and paddle my own canoe.”
Condoleezza Rice
It seems that more and more successful and powerful women are choosing not to get married. Condoleezza Rice is one of them. Rice served as the US Secretary of State from 2005 to 2009. She and NFL player Rick Upchurch were engaged for a short period but she has never been married.
