Sharing gratitude
Jenna and I sat on the sofa. She gave me a steaming cup of tea to thank me for helping her. “Thank you so much for all you’ve done today,” she said softly, her eyes full of respect. I sipped the tea and felt its warmth growing inside me. “It’s the least I can do,” I replied as I met her gaze. For the first time in years, there was a sense of peace between us.

Focusing on the current need
I realized that I had spent the entire day with Jenna not focusing on past discomforts, but focusing on her current needs. The old wounds remained there, but they were less harsh. “Today has been good,” I said, breaking the silence. Jenna nodded and smiled a little around her lips. “Yeah, he was,” she said. We had managed to create a sense of normalcy, and it was great progress.
