Health Problems As A Teen
When Nicole was 16 years old, she started noticing tiny bumps on her skin. Initially, they were in small spots but later spread around her body. She went to the doctor when she began experiencing fever and fatigue and there, it was also discovered her eyes had become jaundiced. Samples of her blood were taken and they found out her platelet level was dangerously low. A normal platelet count is between 150,000 and 450,000 platelets per microliter of blood, but Nicole’s was only 8,000.
A Dangerous Autoimmune Disease
After the checkup, Nicole was diagnosed with TTP or thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, an autoimmune disease which could be fatal. The disease causes blood clots to form around the body. Since she was young at the time, it must have been quite a shock for Nicole to hear her condition. She needed to stay at the hospital in order to recover, but it was definitely good that she got to the hospital in time. What could have happened if she had not?
