The owner was devastated by their loss, but Crosby was heartbroken as well.

It makes sense that Crosby felt down. Even so, this did not explain some of the bizarre behaviors that Miller saw in him.

In the beginning, Miller failed to notice that Crosby changed. At home, they did not change their routines. This only made it even harder to identify the warning signs. But it finally hit him one day as he returned home after a long day at work. He expected Crosby to welcome him into the house, but he was instead greeted by a shocking sight. Miller had no idea what he was looking at and felt disturbed by it.

Miller tried calling out to Crosby, but he did not get a response. Confused, he looked around until he saw that his dog was staring at a wall in the living room. He initially assumed that the poor dog had bad hearing since it did not respond even when he spoke more loudly. Miller came up to his furry pal and checked out the part of the wall that the dog was fixated at. He could not see what was so interesting about it.

The entire episode only made Miller feel concerned about his dog. He petted Crosby, which finally made Crosby snap out of the trance that he was in. “What is it, boy?” he said, trying to look for answers in the huge eyes of his pet. At the very least, he was relieved to see that the dog seemed all right. At the time, Miller assumed that the dog simply spotted a bug and could not take his eyes off it.

Miller did not think much of it since Crosby returned to his regular self after that. However, he realized that this was not true when he went to the kitchen to fetch a glass of water at midnight. As he passed the living room, he saw that the dog was looking at the wall once more. Something was different about him this time, however. This sight made Miller even more concerned than he already was. It was clear that there was something wrong with Crosby. The next day, he woke up early and dropped by the store to buy a camera with night vision capability. He still had work, so he returned home to leave it there before going about his day. Miller decided that he won’t watch the video straight away since it would be better to have more footage. Did this trick work? Did he finally figure out what was going on with his pet?

Crosby let out a cheerful bark when Miller crouched down to take a better look at the wall. Suddenly, he heard something that he simply did not expect. “What on earth was that?” he muttered. His heart had been pounding against his chest when he realized that something was inside the wall all this time!

After looking around, he realized that the wood paneling near the floor somehow got loose. Miller simply broke it off and saw that there was a hole in the drywall behind it. He took a deep breath and then jammed his hand inside the crater until it devoured his arm all the way to his elbow. What now?

Miller could feel drywall pieces all over the floor, but that was not the only thing down there. He grabbed it carefully and then pulled his arm out of the wall. Sadly, he saw that he had only grabbed at dirt, insulation, and drywall. All of a sudden, the cries became more urgent. This was how he figured out that he was on the right track. He got rid of the dirt in an attempt to delve even deeper into the hole.

He used a hand to feel around there, making sure to be careful as he did so. All of a sudden, his fingers brushed something small and soft! Miller thought that it was just another piece of wall insulation. But he knew that he was wrong when he heard the thing release a high-pitched whine. He knew exactly what to do after that. He tightened his grasp on this creature and started to bring it out of the hole.

As soon as he pulled it out of there, he saw that it was actually a kitten. How long had it been in that spot between the living room and the washroom? This was already strange enough, but Miller was even more shocked to see that it looked just like Crosby’s feline best friend. But how did it end up there? He did not have an answer to that question, but he knew that the dog played a part in it.

Considering where the kitten had been, Miller was not shocked to see that she was dusty. But he was confused about why she was even there in the first place. Maybe the mother was nearby. If that was the case, she must be looking for the kitten. He had to figure out what to do here. It was impossible for it to have gone there without the assistance of someone else. Did Crosby sneak her in because he was lonely?

Miller took it upon himself to clean up the kitten. He used a damp cloth to wipe the dust out of the fur. After taking a glance at Crosby, he saw that the pooch was happily wagging his tail back and forth! The kitten was probably eight weeks old or so, based on the way it looked. However, Miller had no idea how to look after him. He hoped that he would figure out the real owner of his kitten sooner than later.

He also went on a mission to figure out who owned the kitten. Sadly, he did not get to the bottom of things despite talking to the neighbors and hanging up posters. No one stepped forward to claim the kitten. A couple of neighbors told him that she was likely a stray since they saw first her on the streets.

When he brought the kitten to a vet, he learned that she was in good shape. She was simply dirty and hungry, but this was not a problem. The vet also checked if she had a chip, only to inform Miller that there was none. On top of that, not a single person got in touch with him about the kitten ever after he posted about it on the neighborhood Facebook group. What did he plan to do with the poor kitten?

He could see that Crosby was enjoying the company of the kitten. Finally, the dog was finally as happy as he used to be. While this was nice, Miller had no desire to keep the cat and asked about giving her to a shelter! The thought of it made him sad, but what else could he do? In the end, he changed his mind.

“The vet basically told me that if I took her to the shelter she’d be put down because there are already over 300 kittens at the county shelter alone that need homes,” he shared. We bet that the thought of that crushed him. “He said I could try putting her outside and hope she goes home, or I could keep her.”

Once he heard this, he knew that there was nothing else to do but to raise the kitten. He returned home with the newest addition to their family. Crosby must have been thrilled when he realized what was happening. It meant that he now had an animal companion in the comfort of his home. As for the kitten, she would get to stay with a family that loved her. Miller also came up with a name for her: Lil Ray-Ray!

There are plenty of people with golden hearts like Miller out there. However, the fact of the matter is that shelters require a lot of help. If you do not have the means to adopt right now, you should look into fostering a pet. You can also donate or raise awareness about the organizations. You are already helping them give the animals a better shot at life by doing these small things. The kitten got lucky, but there are so many animals who can’t say the same thing. Luckily, the next dog in the story was saved just in time.

Hope for Paws received a call on a particularly rainy morning. The caller informed them that she found a German Shepherd mix. However, the issue here was that the dog refused to come out of her hiding spot beneath a van. Not only that, but it was clear that she was terrified of humans as well!

The organization sent Eldad Hagar and Loreta Frankonyte to help the poor dog. The former is actually the founder of Hope for Paws, which helps animals in need. They were tasked to go to the parking lot and check out the situation. The pair decided to stop for a cheeseburger before anything else.

When they got there, they saw that the dog was indeed avoiding humans by hiding below the huge van. They could see just how scared she was. Her fear must have been the reason she would not get out of there. Loreta came up to her and tried to show her the cheeseburger in her hand.

Among other things, Loreta did not want to scare the dog even more than she already was. It was very important to go slow and careful since it was a delicate situation. There was a chance that the dog would simply run off, and they did not want that to happen. They wanted to help her, but they knew that the tide could turn with no warning.

As Loreta got nearer the van, the dog let out a heartbreaking cry. Just like humans, they tend to be scared when they feel threatened as well. The Hope for Paws rescuers understood that she was terrified of them, so they had to act accordingly. It was likely a stray dog who had seen bad things in the past.

The dog did not display any interest in the cheeseburger. After a little while, she started to calm down a little bit. Eldad and Loreta decide to wait some more. They were glad to see the dog try the burger and relax after that. Despite this, she had not fully stopped crying yet either.

Eldad and Loreta were concerned with getting the dog out of the spot. However, how could they do that without putting their safety at risk? Well, rescue groups often use a tool that allows them to do both things at the same time. It was a long rope with a hole at the end that they can use to capture the dog.

Most of the time, dogs are harmless. However, there is a chance that they would attack when a stranger gets too close. This typically only happens when they feel threatened and terrified. Like all of us, they simply do not want to be harmed. You should make sure that they do not view you as a threat!

It was a smart move on their end to buy the cheeseburger for the dog. The truth is that food is a good bait if you plan to lure in a stray dog. Most of the time, this will work on any hungry animal. However, we already know that this case is special. Did their plan work? Was it just a waste of time and food?

After trying out their plan, Eldad and Loreta were both confused. They put the cheeseburger out there, but the dog backed down and hid behind the car again. The disinterest came as a shock to the pair. This was one of the few times that food failed to lure in an animal that they were trying to rescue!

Most of the time, dogs can face their fear if it means putting an end to hunger. This dog, however, was an exception to the rule. Loreta was surprised when the dog snubbed their gift for her. It would have ended right away if the dog was more trusting. Sadly, we can’t always get what we want. While it was clearly going to be difficult, Eldad and Loreta both wanted the best for this dog. The cheeseburger failed, so it was time for them to figure out a different method. Loreta grabbed the tool and put the end of the rope around the dog’s neck. The animal panicked, which made the rescuer let go right away. This strategy was no good either. But what else could they do for a successful mission?

Loreta wanted the dog to stay as calm as possible. She knew that the situation would escalate even more if they scare her off. However, she needed to find another way to get around this. Two plans of theirs had already failed, and it mostly had to do with the fact that she was terrified of them.

After that, the dog then ran off from underneath the parked van. Eldad and Loreta were quick to follow her and found her hiding in a narrow space between two buildings. This actually made things a little easier. Eldad covered one end with a net to ensure that she would not run off to a different spot.

They decided to wait and see if she would come down. Eldad and Loreta knew that she would not stay there forever. It was only a matter of time before she finally got tired and decided to give up. They did not know how long it would take, but they knew that it would happen. And so, they waited…

Eldad made sure to guard one exit, whereas Loreta stayed at the other one. We are glad that there is a record of the mission out there. He made sure to capture the adventure with his phone. They talked to the dog in an attempt to coax her out of the hiding spot. The rescuers did not plan to give up on the dog!

For some time, the dog continued to whine. It was a good thing that the dog eventually calmed down. Loreta wanted to coax her out of the spot and hopefully bring her to their vehicle. The dog was still crying, although she was clearly starting to feel less scared and more relaxed around them by then.

They could see that the poor dog had her ears down low. It meant that she still felt scared of them. Luckily, Loreta and Eldad understood this and allowed her to take as long as she needed. After a little while, the dog looked like she felt much better. The rescuers were glad to see that she had relaxed.

Loreta took this opportunity to try again and put the loop of the snare over her neck. While the pooch still acted in a pretty jittery way, she did not run off again at the very least. They were glad to see this improvement. After that, they took her to the vet and to the rescue shelter to find a forever home for her!
