He lost his second wife shortly after finishing the picture; Judy Howard, whom he married in 2001, died in January 2017. Rance previously had a 51-year marriage with his first wife, Jean, who died in 2000.

But, of course, Jean had a successful acting career. She appeared in over 30 different TV shows, including Married… with Children, Grace Under Fire, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Her film career did not begin until the mid-1970s, over two decades after her son made his big-screen debut in Frontier Woman.
