TV dream
Trebek had a full and adventurous life since his birth in 1940 in Ontario, Canada. As a bellhop in his teens, he got his first taste of the working world. His dream, though, had always been to work as a newscaster. Trebek eventually did just that, reading the news for the Canadian network CBC and later presenting game shows.
Becoming A host
Trebek then moved to the United States in his 30s to host The Wizard of Odds for NBC. With guest appearances and hosting positions on other shows, he became a known figure. But his major break came in 1984 when Jeopardy! relaunched. At the time, the original host, Art Fleming, declined the new hosting position.
