We bet that you are a hipster if you know who Patti Smith is. She might not be the most mainstream person on the list, but her work has definitely influenced other artists. In the ‘70s, she made it big as a key figure in New York City’s punk movement. She did this with a debut record called “Horses.” In 2017, the “punk poet laureate” joined the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She still performs to this day!
