Once you get used to saluting people as a form of greeting every day, it’s hard to let go. So, if you see one saluting you, he may just be saying hello. You can salute back to return the greeting, too.

No Kitchen
Soldiers always refer to the kitchen as THE MESS. So, don’t worry much about it. “Kitchen? What kitchen?” Just get used to hearing it referred to as ‘the mess.’
