Family History
If you watch Little People, Big World, we bet you already know how much work the family puts on the farm. It is labor-intensive work, so physical health is important. Unfortunately, the family is plagued by a number of issues. Because of their dwarfism, Matthew, Amy and Zach all suffer from various health complications. Matthew has what is called diastrophic dysplasia, which has led to numerous surgeries when he was younger. These days, he has to use crutches and motor vehicles to get around. Although Amy only has minor problems, Zach also went through surgeries as a child.

A Chance To Educate
When the concept of the reality show was first proposed, the Roloffs could not wait to let everyone know about their story. Amy recounted it this way: “The Learning Channel came to us about five or six years ago, and so we suddenly realized we were given a great opportunity to educate people about dwarfism. Nothing [else] had depicted dwarfism in an everyday way.” When the show debuted, fans kept approaching and messaging the family to let them know they enjoyed learning about their lives.
