Giovanni Battista Sidotti
Giovanni Battista Sidotti was born in 1668. He was an Apostolic missionary who traveled to Japan in a mission to spread Christianity. It was a dangerous task back then. He tried to disguise himself as a samurai but failed to pull it off. He was captured and then imprisoned until his death in 1714.
What Giovanni Battista Sidotti Really Looked Like
It was a good thing that they found his remains in relatively good condition. In 2014, they found his body during an excavation project that cost them more than 2 million yen. His remains allowed the team to create an accurate depiction of him. Even though the skull was damaged, forensic anthropologists got everything they needed. They said that it was very close to what he probably looked like!
