Trajan

Trajan was born in September 53 and died in August 117. He was the Roman emperor from 98 until his death. The Roman Senate called him optimus princeps, which means “the best ruler”. Many agree that he was among the most successful soldier-emperors in history! It was not easy to be the ruler during a great military expansion, after all. They used this marble bust to help them with the facial reconstruction. This bust was discovered by archaeologists, who believe it was made in 113 AD. They believe that the artist created it after seeing the emperor in person since it was of such high quality. The statue had been broken into more than 356 pieces. This did not hinder the reconstruction of his face, however.
