Tensions rise when the police learn of our moves, and during one of our meetings Laura warns us, “They will come after us.” Officer Drake and some of his colleagues begin to show up more and more in my neighborhood, with a presence so constant that it is impossible to ignore. The feeling of being watched pushes us to be even more determined, but it also fuels a growing anxiety. Mr. Thompson keeps busy, preparing for any possible backlash. We are well aware that this battle is still far from over.
