Cleopatra had been the reigning monarch for nearly three decades. She was 18 when she took throne together with her 10-year-old brother Ptolemy XIII upon the death of their father. In 49 B.C., the advisors of her brothers ran her out of Egypt, although she got reinstated several years after this with the help of Julius Caesar. She also gave birth to Ptolemy Caesar, suspected to be the son of the Roman Emperor. Upon the death of Ptolemy XIV, her other brother, she ruled the land with her son.
